September 5 – 12, 2026
Come enjoy a Journey through Alaska with it’s vibrant colors.
Here are some of the key colors associated with Alaska:
- White – The snow and ice dominate much of Alaska, especially in the winter. Glaciers, snow-capped mountains, and frozen lakes reflect brilliant whites, contributing to the state’s winter beauty.
- Blue – The state’s expansive sky often appears in different shades of blue, especially during clear summer days. Alaska’s glaciers and waters also have deep blue tones, such as the striking blue glaciers in places like Kenai Fjords National Park.
- Green – During the summer, Alaska bursts with vibrant greens from its lush forests, moss-covered rocks, and tundra. The dense forests of spruce and birch trees, as well as the alpine meadows, are all rich in various shades of green.
- Red and Orange – Fall brings spectacular shades of red, orange, and gold to Alaska’s foliage. The colors of the birch trees and other deciduous species create a beautiful tapestry of autumn colors, particularly in the interior and along the coast.
- Purple and Pink – The sunsets and sunrises in Alaska can be breathtaking, with vivid shades of purple, pink, and lavender painting the sky. These colors are often intensified by the long twilight hours of summer.
- Brown and Earth Tones – Alaska’s wilderness is full of earthy colors such as brown, tan, and ochre, seen in the rocky landscapes, dirt paths, and wildlife. Bears, moose, and caribou also add these tones to the natural palette.
- Silver and Grey – The state’s majestic mountain ranges, particularly in the southern regions, often feature silver-grey peaks that are sometimes capped with glaciers, especially in places like Denali National Park.
- Black – The ever-present volcanic mountains and some of Alaska’s darker nights lend themselves to shades of black, particularly in the forests and lava fields, creating a stark contrast with the lighter colors around them.

About the Educators:
Carol Stanek
Carol learned to sew at an early age and spent many years making clothing and home decoration items. Years later, her two youngest children were each gifted with a quilt made by their paternal grandmother. This is when the quilting bug took root! It was at this point she had to learn everything about quilting.
In 2012 Carol found her passion for foundation paper piecing and has made numerous quits, some of which have even won ribbons in local quilt shows. She started teaching foundation paper piecing in 2014, as a Quiltworx Certified Instructor for which she taught classes in several local shops and even on destination cruises.
Carol brings a unique set of skills to her teaching. With her prior work experience in corporate meeting and event planning, Carol has the expertise to help organize retreats and special teaching events. She loves teaching and sharing tips with her students while watching them grow more confident in creating beautiful quilts.
In her search for more variety and challenges, Carol started working on a BeColourful quilt in 2019. She especially loves creating them and has since completed multiple BeColourful quilts.
She is thrilled to become an Authorized Instructor with BeColourful and will start teaching these quilt classes in 2025 at Guilds and Shops in the southeast.
You can find more information on Carol’s classes and events on her website www.stitchwithcolor.com or email her at stitchwithcolor@gmail.com, and she even has an Etsy shop (stitchwithcolor.etsy.com) offering foundation paper piecing supplies, patterns, and quilt kits.
Victoria Johnson
Victoria comes from a long line of creative people. On her mother’s side, her mom, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother, were all accomplished sewists, knitters and quilters. On Victoria father’s side her dad was a welder and metal fabricator, and his father was a wood worker who built boats and homes.
With this much creativity on both her mom and dad’s side of the family, there was no doubt that Victoria would be creative as well. She started sewing at a young age, first doll clothes and simple quilts, and then some clothing.
She took her first official quilting class with a local teacher who asked her “Why are you taking a beginning sewing class? You have far surpassed this level!” In 2012 Victoria made the official jump to paper piecing when she started her journey to becoming a Judy Niemeyer certified instructor, which she did for 10 years.
Several years later, with the encouragement of a fellow paper piecing friend Victoria pulled out the pattern and took another look. This time she was intrigued by what she saw and started making BeColourful Quilts. She got hooked on the method and bright colors and decided that she wanted to become an Authorized BeColourful certified instructor.
Victoria is looking forward to having you in one of her upcoming classes starting in 2025. Feel free to contact Victoria at foreverquiltingforyou@gmail.com or on her ETSY site ForeverQuilting4You@etsy.com.
