About the Educator: Jacquelyn Morris Smith
Jacquelyn has been part of the Quilt Retreat at Sea family since the beginning. She is transitioning from her role as Program Director to Educator for the second time and can’t wait to meet all of you and show you her techniques that make quilting fun and simple, while coming away with a beautiful project.
Quilting entered my life in 2007, and I became so absorbed in all its facets, I knew I had to keep learning. I have taken classes from some of the nation’s top quilters, and from the VERY talented instructors here in our own little world of Pima County- Tucson, AZ. Now I am teaching those who want to learn and those who are already advanced. But I have found through the teaching experiences that I also learn from the students. Teaching experience has taken me across the United States, and on the open seas- as the Program Director and educator for Quilt Retreat at Sea.
Past students have remarked that they “like to take my classes, because I have already made the mistakes, and they won’t have to”.
About the Project:
Although the project is still in its early design stage, my style seems to be traditional quilts with a modern twist to form new and exciting quilts. I love color and this destination, so it only makes sense to feature the vibrant colors of Mexico. The project will include piecing and a method I created called “Switch-up”, which makes one block into four blocks. Not only will your blocks be colorful and fun to make, your quilt can be pieced together in several different ways so you can go home with a quilt uniquely your own.
